However, in general, churches do not preach the more unsavoury aspects of the Bible. I believe that religion should go, but we need something to replace it.

On the criminal's faith point, you'll have to give me a little time to get my sources.

Sure. I don't know how accurate my sources are, but both say that Islam is growing at about 2.9% a year, while the world population is only growing about 2.3% a year. If you have more accurate sources feel free to post them.

Mine are: <a href="http://www.religioustolerance.org/worldrel.htm" target="_blank">religioustolerance.org</a> and <a href="http://www.top-education.com/Religions/islam1.htm" target="_blank">top-education.com</a>

Religion is here to stay.

However, its influence is definitely declining and has been for some time.

Eventuallu religion will be like astrology.

I was watching a discussion on tv about this very question with various pundits. The Jewish guy, I think, answered it best. He said nowadays, people like to take a little Muslim, a little Christianity, a little Buddhism and whatever else, mix it with some vodka and call it religion. New religions will rehash what worked best in the dying or dead ones and resell the program to the masses who will swallow it up. But whatever happens, most people are not going to become critical thinkers or logical reasoners. We're a long way from that, and probably getting further away all the time. I just hope Scientology doesn't take over as the dominant religion.

the most desirable system, it prevented a great deal of crime and our society benefited.

This is an unsupported assertion. You have no way of knowing whether theistic law or secular law is responsible.

You've actually made several unsupported assertions. Here's another:
Quote:
Criminals, by and large, are not of a faith

This is dead wrong. Most criminals in prison are religious; the vast majority in U.S. prisons are christian. As soon as I find the link, I'll post a reference on this.

Also, if criminals are not "of faith", how does religious law prevent crime?
