Rural souteast Virginia wasn't much better through the 80's and 90's (probably still sucks) when I was in gradeschool. My parents sent me to Catholic High School because the curriculum (including the AP Biology course that earned me 8semester credits) was far superior to Isle of Wight County public schools. The sad thing is that Isle of Wight is adjacent to the city and not even remotely as backward as less populated counties further inland or in Northeast North Carolina where I was born. I can only assume that this sort of ignorant crap is pretty pervasive throughout rural amurika, particular the southeast and Gulf Coast states, although Ohio, Kansas, and eastern Washington State prove that it's everywhere.

Even in schools where evolution is on the docket, you're likely to find severely underqualified instructors. I know of schools where the Earth Science and Biology instructors have BAs or MAs of Education and only minors in Bio. They probably don't understand natural selection any better than the student that authored the paper of topic in this thread. Such poor instruction can only leave students open to manipulation by their BOJO educated preacher and ICR propaganda.

i felt sad for her. i also wondered how she managed to get into uga. you do need about 1100 on the sat after all.
yeah, but it's UGA. what do you expect? had you gone to a real school like GaTech you would not have this problem.

Holy Crap!

That was written by a college student?!?

It looked like a high school paper at best.

Not so, my Kiwi friend. When I was traveling in New Zealand, I encountered a street preacher/creationist in the main square of Christchurch. He was discussing Kent Hovind's bogus $250,000 challenge to present evidence for evolution.

As for 'godly' Kiwis in the forum, perhaps you might be familiar with Tercel?
Yeah, okay, but look at the name of the place! We take no responsibility for Christchurch (or XChurch, as I've taken to calling it since I've been on II).

Since I've been here, there's been Heath Anderson, Tusitala, Mark_Chid, lunachick, me and one or two others that I've noticed, and only one Christian!

OTOH, I don't recall any theistic Australians... May be I don't pay enough attention.

I could, as a proud graduate of a couple of very good Northern schools, make some snide comment about a bunch of people arguing over which Georgia college is better than the other, but perhaps it would be better to quietly suggest that this bickering cease. Pretty please?
