You wouldn't want him to return. He had Tourette's Syndrome. Still has, but now he's medicated for it. Back then, it was constant cursing and violent threats against a great many people on the boards.

Thank science for such cures!

Oh hell, I didn't see any of that!

I only saw a handful of very erudite and articulate expressions of a brilliant mind at work.

Hmmm. Tourette's, huh?

*races off to do a search*

I'm happy science is working for him, though.

I'm glad that heathen dawn is ready to fight his demons in a more rational way.

I disagree with Rational BAC however concerning his comments about the fear of death. I've worked with elderly patients for most of my 28 years as an RN, and irrational fear of death is not exclusive to any particular belief system. I have no fear of death and I'm an atheist. I've known many, many theists of all varieties that have an irrational fear of death. I personally think it has more to do with how you are raised, and/or what strange little neurotransmissions might be going on in your brain to predispose you to phobias.

All the good nookie and booze?? Damn, if they promised that in the church I went to, I might still believe too!!

Cheers,

Excuse me? It's strange to fear death? Are you daft? It's human nature to fear death. Hell, it's animal nature to fear death. Anyone who thinks the majority of humans don't fear death is kidding themselves. Theists and atheists alike get shivers at the thought. Some of us get bigger shivers, sure, but fear of death is strange? Not fearing death is strange.

I might add, if more people had a healthy fear of death, the world might be a better place.

Or even better, if they had a healthy fear for the deaths of other people.

Too many people seemed concerned about their own death, but don't give a rat about other people dying.

cheers,
Michael

we live in a selfish, greedy, self-centered, world. What do you expect?

Oh, how I miss that cheerful Christian outlook on life.

Rather than, or in addition to, a healthy fear of death, I recommend a healthy respect for life.

Which doesn't include labeling this as a "selfish, greedy, self-centered world."

I don't see Christianity changing that at all.

What? Oh. "Not perfect, just forgiven". Universal cop-out. Despite the exhortation to be perfect just as the Father in Heaven is perfect...

But Magus cannot have been looking in the right places. How come I've managed to find quite a lot of people who aren't selfish, greedy and self-centred, while he hasn't? He just hasn't been looking hard enough.

Everyone has been selfish and greedy at some point in their life. All people want is more money, more goodies, more things for them. Its part of the world, and its undeniable. It may be more prevelant in certain parts of the world, but you can't say there is anyone in the world that has never been selfish or greedy about something.

I'm not saying having money or things is always necessarily bad, it depends on how you use it. To feed the poor and hungry, or buy your 6th house, and 8th car. ( obviously not everyone has that kinda money, but using the filthy rich as an example).
