I take this to mean that you accept the veracity of transubstantiation.

How come Gemma responds to almost everything with a bible verse, hymn, prayer or some wacky story about the life of a Catholic saint?

You are a VERY odd young lady Gemma Theresa. What on Earth has led to your fasciination with one of the more fanatical and bizzare aspects of the RCC? Where is all this coming from?

Do *you* want to be a Catholic saint someday?

The Catholic clergy are sort of like Nazi magicians.

They get up in front of the crowd with a bunch of props just like any other magician and then do a couple of tricks. The difference is that with real magicians you can actually see the outcome of a trick. (flower turns into a silk.rabbit vanishes from hat, lady floats in air..etc)

Catholic magicians on the other hand don`t show you ANY results.
"Here is an ordinary wafer. Mumble mumble hocus pocus... Body of Christ!"
"Here is some ordinary wine. Mumble mumble hocus pocus..... Blood of Christ!

Both the wine and the wafer are exactly the same as they were at the beginning of the magic show, but we`re told that they have changed into something else. If we want our money back or want to argue with the magician we are quickly shown the door.

Can`t they at least make the wafer appear from behind a kids ear or make the wine pour from an empty bottle the audience members were allowed to examine?

Imagine if David Copperfield praticed Catholic magic.

David: Behold! The tiger has turned into a beautiful woman.

Audeience: Umm no it didn`t. The tiger is still sitting on the stage right in front of us.

David: Yes it did.

Audience: No it didn`t.

David: OK Fine! Don`t believe me and see how you feel about it when your burning in Hell! Would someone please show these sinners to the exit. Thanks and goodnight!

David Copperfields career would have been over before it even started.

I was born and raised in a Catholic family and Catholic schools, when we began to understand transubstantiation we sometimes refered to communion as "swallow the leader"

LMAO!!

I'm a closet Atheist around my family, so I have to go to (Catholic) church with them every week. Now I'll have trouble containing myself as I go up to eat the Jeezit. See what you did?

GPLindsey,
Your idea that the Eucharist might be considered cannibalism is nothing new. The pagans were accusing the "evil" Christians of cannibalism at least as far back as beginning of the 2nd century AD.

My question would be: does it matter?
Even if this technically qualifies as "cannibalism", it hardly seems to be particularly awful. -Christians are hardly going to go out and kill people so they can eat them, are they?

It would be nice to be a saint -- because that would mean I loved God very much. To me, stories of the saints are not wacky but beautiful.

"Christians are hardly going to go out and kill people so they can eat them, are they? "

Here ya go

Dahmer claimed that he ate the flesh of his victims because he believed that the people would come alive again in him.

His statement to the judge at his conviction:

"Thank God there will be no more harm that I can do. I believe that only the Lord Jesus Christ can save me from my sins... I ask for no consideration."

Ironically, Dahmer was murdered while in prison by Christopher Scarver ~ a delusional schizophrenic who thought he was the son of God.

More tea, Mr. Gandhi?

I think it matters whether transubstantiation is akin to ritual cannibalism because Christians contend that their religion is the source of morality. Cannibalism is reprehensible--the only way one might justify it is in a survival situation and the dead are the only source of food (think airplane crash in the Andes). Cannibalism as part of a religious ritual--to become one with the person who is dead--could never be considered justifiable. Thus, engaging in a ceremony where cannibalism is implied is glorifying an essentially reprehensible act. How can Christians be Holier than Thou when they are carrying out such a bizarre ceremony? It isn't just Catholics either--I was raised Luthern and we went through communion to.
