I believe this saying is to be used by your own mouth!

If you love someone more than yourself, you are not worthy of yourself!

Love thy neighbor, as you (would) Love yourself

So in reverse we can say that the way you do Love your neighbor Is the way you Love yourself.

And how is eternal hellfire, or the threat of it, loving, forgiving or compassionate?

With the new interpretation I present, this makes more sense now, if you grasp it?
