It's an even bigger pity that a strip that often tackled sophisticated philosophical views and made them funny has been reduced to the kid who kneels before the cross.

Yeah, I strongly agree with you there. I've seen that hurlsome nonsense, as well as the "piss on Satan" Calvins, but of course those are spinoffs to the "piss on Ford/Chevy" ones. The Piss on Fords run about 10-1 in my unofficial count, and are more typically found on Chevys. I suspect that most of the people who have these Calvins on their vehicles don't even remember Calvin and Hobbes, or do so vaguely. It is amazing how time flies the older you get.

I love that comic strip. I've been reading it since before I even understood the deeper meanings in there. I wish Watterson hadn't retired.

If you like *Calvin&Hobbes*, y'orter look-up *Thomas HOBBES* in some big mother collection of quotations & get a taste of some headman prose.

I have read some Thomas Hobbes, but I agree with the tiger a lot more often.

Heck... your privilege,. Person. Don't think my purpose was necessarily to flog Th Hobbes's assertions, but only to get his swanky sentence-making a hearing. That's decadent, I suppose.... to admire wellmade sentences regardless of their content. "Irish poets, learn your trade:/ Sing whatever is well-made." Hey-ho....

I also have been a lifelong fan of C and H. I am often surprised at what the author gets away with in our Religious Right dominated society. People usually prefer the foof in "Family Circus" and B.C." Thank you for the smile today.

Speaking of Calvin & Hobbes and morality, one of my favorite strips has Calvin asking Hobbes "as an animal, a representative of Nature, why are we here? What is our purpose on Earth?" To which Hobbes replies: "We're here to devour each other alive."
