Default Jesus:"You are Gods"

In the Gospel of John, Jesus counters the Jewish critics with this quotation from the Psalms. Jesus states that if the Jewish people are called Gods by God, then he has a write to be considered equal with God as well.

However, if one looks at Psalm 82, it appears that it is God actually addressing other Gods/Angels in his divine council, but is actually sentencing them to death for not being good to poor people. There does not seem to be any mention of God addressing men--he states that those being addressed will "Die like mortals, and fall as one man, princes", stating that the Gods have been sentenced to live like mortals.

Default Read this closely

Psalms, Chapter 82 SAB

How many gods
are there?

82:1
God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

82:2
How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

82:3
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

82:4
Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

82:5
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

How many gods
are there?
82:6
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

82:7
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

82:8
Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations

Does this sound like a different religion or belief than the rest of the bible to you?If it does it probably is.

Do not forget the ancient civilization was supposidly from the middle east where king hammerabi was a ruler and spoke in akkadian.

What came first paganism or truth as we understand a GOD as real? You decide

BTW the standard apologist argument seems to be that God is telling people they are Gods because they are in the image of God, or rulers or some such...

Not quite.

John 10

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

Evidently then, Christ misinterpreted the scripture. Correct?
