How about an answer.

No, Ed - this man was the best Christian you'd ever want to meet. He really "walked the walk" - everything that fell from his lips, he not only truly believed in - he followed them to the letter. He followed the Bible as implicitly as possible, doing everything that God told him to do.

Now, how is that being a bad Christian? Even God tells His followers that it's OK to rape and pillage.

Betrand Russell difined his worldview as love guided by knowledge. By knowledge he ment scientific knowledge that allows you to help others. I think this is a view that most if not all of us can accept.

But were do you get off thinking that people are moral only if they believe in a supernatural power to keep them in line? Do you have any empirical evidnece(such as higher murder/violent crime rates, etc.)?

Ed is your typical believer who flashes through this web site figuring that he would tell us his great truth and beat down us damn atheist.

But after the hard questions are asked he comes rather short on answers and disappears in the blue yonder.

I am still waiting for answers, Ed.

lp: Ed, this is not much of an explanation. I don’t think you know what your morals are. You are going to have to do better than this. If you can’t explain your own morals then what right do you have to criticize others for their supposed lack of morals? Especially when it appears that you lack them yourself!

I am not sure what you are asking, first you wanted to know what moral character meant, now you seem to want to know what my morals are. I think I answered the first one. The second one in a nutshell is God's moral law contained in the Ten Commandments supplemented by Christ's teachings.

Ed, I'm going to jump to a conclusion here. Please tell me if I am right or wrong. If you and I shared the exact same morals except I did not believe in your god would that make me immoral? If that is so can you tell me why?

Ummm... you need to read the posts you repond to more carefully. I never said that you or any atheist were immoral, what I said was atheists have no rational basis for being moral especially if their morality resembles Christian morality.

So are you saying that because I am an atheist I am incapable of reason? Or are you saying that Christian morals are irrational?
