“I can't get my mind around the idea that anyone, having been born a man, could be happy as a woman, or vice versa. I doubt that it can really happen.”

Thank you, yguy, for one of the most bigoted things I’ve read here at II.

You write your posts from a position of absolute ignorance - an ignorance which allows you to preserve your sickening prejudices.

I work alongside a transsexual and I know - which you don’t - the absolute misery of an individual who is uncomfortable with the sex into which he or she has been cast, and knows that the only way of achieving the fulfilment in life which you take for granted is to change sex.

It is a long and difficult process; it requires extraordinary commitment and perseverance, and it invites physical and mental abuse from ignoramuses who think anything outside their own terms of reference, anything they cannot fully understand, is an aberration to be punished and destroyed.

I am only thankful that compassion, humanity and enlightenment are making their lives a little more tollerable than they once were.

I cannot over emphasise how strongly I feel about this.
