Nah, all your skin and nerve endings will be eaten by maggots here on earth. The only pain you'll feel (as some christians say) is the pain of seperation from god.

So, once you get over that, pull up a chair , sit your bony ass down and hang out with Socrates, Gandhi, Jefferson, Sagan etc. and chill.

Save me a seat

heh

(spelling ugh)

If Hell is just an eternity away from God, wouldn't Atheists see that as a reward?

“Yes. That's called "Catholocism". They believe church Tradition (capital t) is just as important, if not more important, than the Bible. In fact, in trying to interperet the Bible on your own, you're giving into the Protestant Heresy and are doomed to Hell.”

They seem to think, as in the movie “Dogma”, that whatever the church says is so God will make it so>

Matthew 18

18"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be[1] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[2] loosed in heaven.

19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

“If Hell is just an eternity away from God, wouldn't Atheists see that as a reward?”

The ancients saw God as bringing order out of chaos, separation from God wouuld be eternal chaos ‘the absence of reason’ ever see the movie “Event Horizon” People sucked into hell by a warpdrive engine, driven insane by the overpowering confusion.

Many Christians, even some fundy types, believe Jesus died for your sins, period, end of story, all sins past present and future and the only way to get to hell is to refuse the offer. Some even believe you can only refuse the offer after you’re dead, face to face. “The unpardonable sin”. Presumably no one at this point would be stupid enough to refuse.

Better a chaotic existence than a robotic slave.

Happy is he who bashes the heads of the fetuses against the rocks?

Ask them to show you where the bible says this to be true. Or, maybe, are they just pulling stuff out of their collective ass to try to rectify the obvious incongruities?
Don't you mean rectumfy, DarkBronzePlant?

Quote:
As I understood it, this is what Andrea Yates believed, and is why she killed her children. She thought she was a bad mother and that if she continued to raise them, they would likely go to hell because of her bad influence. She reasoned that if she killed them at a young, innocent age, they will automatically go to heaven.
thebeave,

This was her defense. I doubt seriously it was the true reason she did it.

Quote:
Considering that we are so often told that suffering builds character, I also wonder what kind of life it will be for these children if they never suffer. Won't they grow up spoilt? Or will they grow up at all? If a woman loses a longed-for child as an infant, say, and she wants to get to heaven and see it as an infant and watch it grow up, will God deliberately retard the development of that child while he allows other infants to progress normally?
Queen,

I've always had trouble with the questions about what the afterlife will be like for the "saved." What language do they speak in Heaven, anyhow? I guess we'd all--including the fetuses--speak in tongues we've never learned. Hm.

Quote:
If God allows suffering on Earth in order to teach us important things and build character and virtues, doesn't that mean the people in hell are the wisest people who ever existed, and with the strongest character and virtues; and that they are always being improved even more due to their suffering? And does that also imply that people in heaven are perfectly static, never changing or learning?

Given that suffering in hell is supposed to be so great, doesn't that mean that the people in hell will rapidly advance far beyond the people in heaven?
Shadownaught,

In other words, it'll be just like life here on earth, with the saved being mindlessly bored and mentally stagnant and the "lost"...no wait. In hell, we won't be punished to learn; we'll be punished to appease God's revenge.
