You do (most annoyingly) get the vague and woolly idea that all faiths have merit, because faith is a good thing. Much espoused by Prince Charles and Tony Blair. Implies that non-believers are not worthy of attention or are, perhaps, second-class citizens.

But anyway, the it's all the same god argument is a basic precept of the Baha'i faith. While I'm not a Baha'i (the whole "I'm basically a deist" thing prevents me from agreeing with them), I tend to like some of thier ideas. The Baha'i believe that God (Allah,YHWH, The Purple Chicken, whatever you want to name it) is progressively introducing his Will to different parts of the world, with different needs, and at different times. The fact that most major organized religions follow similar laws (thou shalt not kill, thou shall not steal, etc etc) makes this argument all the more reasonable. Moses, Muhammad, Jesus, Buddha... they're all divine messengers, each progressing the spiritual development of our world, with the ultimate purpose of unity once we realize this.

Then again, I see the Crusades, Jihads, random religious bigotry, and stupid laws religion has brought, and I remember that I have very little hope for humanity and society at large, and reaffirm my belief that people are stupid, even if there are intelligent individuals
