Hello, Jobar!

While religions do make claims to truth, and to absolute truth, I don't believe there is such a thing. Something can be a valuable truth without being absolute.

Why do I hold on to a faith based on ancient writings and a very different culture? Well, because that faith is *based* on those things, and not those thing themselves. My faith might be based on ancient inspired documents, but it is also mightily influenced by other religions, history, and varying philosophies--and I don't mean to say that this is my personal faith, but that it is true of Christianity in general. It is changing, growing, maturing? with the people that believe it--as all religions do.

Maybe so. I have knowledge enough for me (most days), but that is all.

Well, we've gotten some interesting answers, but so far we haven't heard from any traditional theists: you know, the ones who believe their religion is completely, nearly, or at least mostly true. These are the people that it seems would really have a tough time with this question.

I know they are on these boards. We hear from them all the time. Any of you have some words to enlighten us on your view?

Oh, Magus would say that the truth of Christianity is obvious, only that most people, being sinful, wilfully suppress it. The plurality of falsehoods, Magus will say, is the result of Satan's dominion upon fallen humanity. Everybody knows the gospel of JC is true and will be judged according to this knowledge. "Without excuse", "strong delusion", "the natural man does not understand", "the gospel is foolishness to the unsaved" etc etc ad nauseam.
