Poke around here a while for a lot of related stuff, but have a big bottle of Prozac handy when you do. Did you know that "ordinary tomatoes do not contain genes, while genetically modified tomatoes do?"

Perhaps. But why do those Chinese post-docs come to America?

So, according to that link, 60% of people think both evolution and creationism should be taught and there's an increase in the number of people who believe in pseudoscience like ESP. Just imagine what Carl Sagan would be saying in response to that lot.

Because the scientific research(funding and laws) in their own country sucks as evident in mine.

I've barely met anyone who doesn't accept an old earth. It could just be the people I meet/ hang around with, but 45% seems alarmingly high.
Just to stick up for the good old US of A, there was a Scientific American Article a few years ago showing that American's scientific literacy was as great or better than the average European. I believe the survey was done of older adults and asked such questions as how long it takes the earth to circle the sun, and a few other basic concepts. While there were a large percentage of Americans that were downright ignorant of such simple concepts, there were actually as many or more Europeans. You might still find the poll at www.sciam.com.

A Finnish anti-manipulation person used that kind of "argument" to claim that genemanipulated food can be dangerous.

Anybody have the current stats on the number of Americans who think man and the dinosaurs coexisted?

I think it just recently dropped below 70%.

We probably have Friends to thank for that as much as I hate to think of it.

Exactly. That's my point.

To Wounded King: Scientists from other countries come to the United States because the quality of its higher education and research at the university level is top notch.

We just need to figure out how to educate the children.

Just move to Quebec instead. Not only will you be a fucking anglo, you'll be a bloody yank to boot. Everyone will hate you, but it's a lot closer to you than France.
