Doesn't "yankee" refer to anyone born south of the 49th, Georgians included? Some kind of masturbation reference I think.

P.S. Welcome Jobar.

Well actually I am a Tech graduate (Applied Physics, 1977), but since I never gave much of a damn about sports I doubt the Ga. /Ga. Tech feud will be any problem here. (The only time I attended a game, my father- a diehard Bulldog- insisted that I get tickets. So I did- in the Tech student section. I got hit by lots of flying ice cubes aimed at my Dad, who cheered loudly; I was glad it wasn't a close game because then it might have been beer bottles. Ga. won.)

I always know right away if Georgia beats Tech on Thanksgiving only because my Dad calls me and gloats. If Tech wins, I may not realize it for days, or even weeks!

But enough of all that. I was a very 'hands-on' moderator in EoG; I plan to be a bit more retiring here, while I learn the ropes. One thing I am insistent about is good manners- this is one of the *upper* forums, by damn, and flame wars will be extinguished with high-pressure fire hoses if I see any!

I am looking forward to catching up on the latest advances in evolutionary biology. I am a regular reader of Scientific American, Skeptical Inquirer, and free inquiry magazines, so I know BS when I see it- but I expect to learn a lot from Rufus and the other acknowledged experts in E/C.

Sveet! A new mediator: how do you guys pic? Cast lots? Arm wrestle? The victor in a deathmatch arena fought with klingonese weapons?

They lasso us and hogtie us, until we agree to moderate.

Actually, we are all volunteers. I have modded Miscellaneous Discussions and Existence of God(s) before this, and felt it was time for a change- my ambition is to be a mod for every forum on the board (save perhaps Politics, which I have little interest in, and BC&A, which I feel I am unqualified for.)

Although I certainly am not as qualified as pz, Rufus, and scigirl, I did long ago teach high school biology, so I think E/C is within my competence.

Hey Jobar, contrats!

And let's hear it for those Tech bees!

*silence*

Ok, I gotta admit, I don't care much for sports either.

Jobar,

Don't forget about all your friends in Evidences of God(s). Come back up and visit often and may your tenure in Evolution/Creation go well.
