If you are referring to Sodom and Gomorrah, I'm dying to hear how exactly you know that they did "just fine".

Rome did "just fine" too, until it fell apart.

Are you asserting that the fall of Rome can be attributed to homosexuality? What possible reason could you have to believe that? Particularly when such behaviors had been going on in the Roman Empire for hundreds of years. And the fact that the official religion of Rome when it fell was Christianity, and had been for a number of years.

No, I'm saying the "if it feels good do it" mentality corrupted the populace to the point where it became complacent, and easy prey for invaders. Homosexuality is only one symptom of such a mentality.

But the mentality of the Roman Empire shifted to Christianity. Then, after being Christian for a number of years, it fell. So, if the fall of Rome is due to the mentality of the people (your assertion, not mine), then it is a result of them becoming more Christian. They did not become more homosexual toward the end of the empire; they were probably far less inclined to such activities due to the fact that the official religion of the Empire was Christianity, and Christianity frowns on such things. They had a very robust Empire when they were pagans and homosexuality was regarded as just another option.

You are ignoring the historical facts when you are making your groundless assertions.

I don't know what "more Christian" actually looked like back then. Trappings of religiosity to not a Christian make.

The emphasis on homosexuality is entirely yours. A degenerate is a degenerate, whether he does his thing brazenly and openly or does it in secret and gets absolution from a priest in lieu of a real change.

Alonzo Fyfe

You're right.

I grew up in a very diverse town and so have never really understood racism or homophopia. I just don't think that homosexuality is wrong.

Why is it indicative of a 'degenerate'? Doesn't make any sense to me.

When a society becomes more Christian, this generally means that more members of the society become Christian. That is what took place with the Roman Empire before it fell. More citizens became Christians. It was the religion of the later emperors, and it was the official religion of the Empire when it fell. Is this really so difficult for you to understand, or are you just playing games, pretending not to understand because you realize that you have no justification for your beliefs?

Do you have any idea what this thread is all about? Are you really that unaware of what you are doing?

The only degeneration that took place in the Roman Empire in the later years that had not been going on for pretty much their entire existence was the conversion to Christianity.

Your insinuation that ancient Roman Christians engaged in homosexual behavior and then sought absolution is groundless, like so many of your assertions.

The simple fact is, you have given absolutely no reason for your claim that homosexuality is "degenerate".

Question

yguy, this is silly. Do you even have a reason for disliking homosexuality so much other than, "Well, several Bronze Age tribal societies disliked it, and that's good enough for me!"?

Furthermore, what leads you to assume that that said Bronze Age tribal folk had any more valid a reason for declaring a sex act "immoral" than you do?

The fact that they didn't "fall apart" as societies until numerous SUV-sized meteors smacked into them is a big indicator, methinks.

The hell? How does an "if it feels good, do it" mentality lead to the sort of complacency exploitable by barbarian hordes? And how was "corruption" involved?

Sigh.

"No Scotsman is a fairy!"

"Uh, I'm Scottish, and I'm gay."

"No TRUE Scotsman is a fairy!"
