"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

Interesting that the stick, not the carrot, is the motivator for Christians. As if there are no other motivations for wisdom possible.

How about love of life?

Love of personal excellence?

Love of wisdom? literally: philosophy

Love of the natural universe? expressed as science

Ah, but then you'd be committing the sin of pride.

"God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

That tends to rank up there as one of the most annoying ones I have heard.

"God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is, 'No'."

Of course a good Christian will only ask for things that are likely anyway, to improve His odds. "Do not put God to the test." He might fail!

"I asked Jesus how much he loved me, and he said, 'This much', and he stretched out his arms and died."

A moment of silence for Jesus, please! <img src="graemlins/boohoo.gif" border="0" alt="[Boo Hoo]" />

Translation: I just got a "get out of hell free" pass, so I go to heaven even though I murdered 3 people. You, on the other hand, are to be tortured for eternity for not saying my god's kid is better than anyone else, even though you never hurt anyone in your life.

Which reminds me of a joke (not on topic)

Q: What's this (stretch out arms)
A: A really fucked up way to spend Easter.
