Again, let me state that I don't really know what it means when it says that all scripture is god-breathed, or inspired by God. Does it mean he dictated every word exactly like a boss dictating a letter to his secretary, or does it mean something else? I don't know. I don't think I ever will.

However, in Scripture what we have, in my humble opinion, is the record of God dealing with man to bring him into a relationship with himself.

Man is a stubborn creature. How would we know that a relationship with God is best for us when we can't see or hear him? God had to get past that barrier, and he did. He spoke through prophets to foretell events in the future in such detail that it could only come from God. I know that liberal bible critics are discounting this, placing the writing of the prophecies after the prophecies were fulfilled, but I think it is their own bias against the supernatural that leads them to do this.

I tend to throw my lot in with the bible scholars on the right wing of things. For example, I believe Isaiah was all written (or spoken) as the case may be, by one man, not two or three.

In a few words that is my best response to your question.

Kevin

Don't you think we can safely discount the dictation theory given all of the known discrepancies in the Bible?

Yes, but why do you think that?

But isn't it more likely that it is your pro-supernatural bias that leads you to a conclusion that is in line with what you desire? As far as I can tell, there is no evidence that would lead me (or anyone) to conclude that there is a supernatural realm. Hence, I see no reason to believe in these prophecies, and I'm scratching my head at the notion of an all-powerful god who can't make himself seen or heard. You can understand how someone might find that a bit strange, can't you?

Actually, Kevin, that wasn't a response to my question. I wanted to know what evidence you had that the Bible was inspired by God. Nothing in your response even broached that topic -- it was all your unsupported opinion that you've already stated. Is that an example of human stubborness? Care to try again?
