Every possible idea therefore may be said to be used existentially, for every possible idea qualifies and is true of a real world. And the number of real worlds, in a word, is indefinite. Every idea therefore in a sense is true, and is true of reality. The question with every idea is how far and in what sense is it true. The question is always whether, qualifying reality in one sense, the idea qualifies reality in another sense also. For, true in one world, an idea may be false in another world... Francis H. The great questions that remain for me is what will be our next stages of development and whether philosophy is geared to handle further evolution? Is philosophy in itz current form capable of providing these answers?

Bill seems interested in a manner of living as a question to be proposed. This question seems to be to be within us, part of our current scope. Perhaps Bill meant whether the way we live is valid OR whether our way of life needs validation? This sort of questioning in the end leads me to wonder whether we can answer all the questions from within OR do we have to have help from without?

Not quite. It's a question exploring why and how we choose our values.

From an atheistic perspective, the meaning, purpose, & direction of our lives must come from within. There is no "without". To my mind, a "great question" remaining yet unanswered is, "How shall we live?" By that, I mean what purposes, what meanings, what directions ought we to ascribe to our lives? Are there some values or sets of values that all humans do hold, or should hold? If so, what are they? If not, upon what bedrock do we anchor human society?

Over time, science has "usurped" many areas of exploration once reserved solely to philosophy. While science can (and must!) inform ethical deliberations, it iseems to me to be one area remaining where pure philosophy can still play a vital role.

Where did we come from and why?

What is the ultimate goal of mankind and the universe?

What are the methodologies to reach that goal?

Nice little exposition provided in the last post Bill. What I wanted to know was do you think there is enough information in our Universe OR there may be information enough to answer your question?

You seem to hold the position that there has to be enough information seeing there can be no without, no outside source of information.

Can I agree? My reply is to wait and see, OR to assume the position of preparing to answer the questions.

* * *

My next response seems to be leading me to believe you wish to lead the search for HUMANITY.

Is this correct?

Greetings:

Where did this idea (that if one can imagine something, it must be true, or it must exist, somewhere)?

I think it might have been Plato, but I still think the idea is extremely silly.

Russell, are you saying if we imagine a question then the possibility exists the question is meaningless?

Russell, you wrote : Where did this idea( parenthesis)?

Can you tell me where the verb or subject is?
