I attribute this to early indoctrination by their church at young ages (before logical thinking has fully developed), usually by pastors who claim that "evolution is evil" and other such nonsense.

I also attribute it to #1 above - lack of education about science. I just found out that one of my boyfriend's co-workers is a creationist although he is not religious! He just can't fathom how evolution occured so he thinks it must have been some alien or creator outside of the Earth. I think a few science classes would straighten him out, but he's already finished with college.

Excellent point, I agree 100% and I should have clarified in my OP.

Interesting you mention the non-relgious creationist. I almost said something about all creationists being religious, but then I remembered that I read somewhere about the "alien seed" theory. Course, that only begs the question "how did the aliens get here?".

Well, I think it extremely significant that no-one will deny that Creationist consider the Theory of Evolution to be the work of Satan; that Darwin and Alfred Wallace (thank you Scigirl for that name) were the tools of the devil. Presumably, even as I write their souls are burning in the flames of hell.
So, what does this mean for scientific inquiry should the Creationists ever obtain the authority and power they are working for?
If Darwin and Wallace not only asked the wrong questions, but came up with the Biblically-incorrect answers and are being punished for that with everlasting damnation, who could ever be sure not to make the same mistake?
Any subject which related - however obliquely - to Divine Revelation has the potential of putting the soul of the careless inquirer into mortal danger. And who would decide that? Why, the Creationists.
We therefore do know what would happen to scientific inquiry if the future belongs to them: it would be stopped in its tracks.
What would we have in its place: The Institute for Determining the Precise Temperature of the Flames of Hell? The University of God, conducting research into the length of the Almighty’s beard, and the precise date when Creation began? Or perhaps The University for the Veneration of the Turin Shroud, devoted to disproving that that the "shroud" is a Medieval fake?

GeoTheo - Why don't you tell us if Creationists believe Darwin to have been possessed by Satan when he embarked on the work which led to The Origin of Species?
Why don't you tell us if Creationists think that being possessed by Satan and being possessed by curiosity can amount to the same thing?
If Creationists do think that, then my speculation as to the consequences for scientific inquiry were they ever to run things are perfectly legitimate: if you don't like them - and clearly you don’t - perhaps you need to re-think your position?
