You could almost say a true deity.

People experience emotions based on knowledge obtained of which they were previously unaware. Since god is supposedly omniscient, there would be no emotion on his part. He would not be jealous, he would not need to be left alone to let his 'wrath wax hot', etc.

If god is perfect then I fail to see his need, his motivation to create in the first place.

Back to the OP:

Quote:
In the McHugh vs. Kreuger debate, McHugh attempts to define God as 'without deficiency'. If this were so, just how can any religious person claim that God in any way needs our belief or praise?
God is without deficiency. He is without personal deficiency, where the object of deficiency is Himself, personally. However, He is not without deficiency in His creation, but then the object of the deficiency is the creation, not the Creator. There may be deficiency in others whom He cares about so He "needs" them to seek perfection, perfection from the one and only source of perfection. Perfection needs nothing from imperfection to remain perfect but altruisticly (perfectly motivated, others-centered) and lovingly needs imperfection to look to perfection in order that imperfection may become as perfection is, because perfection perfectly loves imperfection.

What? There are two objects of a need at play here. There is a need caused by a personal deficiency in God and there is a need caused by deficiency in man. The two objects are God and man. God needs nothing when the object of that need is Himself. He is self-sufficient, perfect and needs nothing in this sense. When the object in need is man God then desires man to attain to the perfection of man, as originally created, to choose what is good, to choose truth, to choose God--but the counter balance to this is the will of man. Man is significantly free and can imperfectly choose evil, error, and live independantly of God, resulting in death and other nastiness associated with being out of spec. Part of the restoration of man to perfection is worship, which is merely the truthful acknowledgement of the virtues of God in song, lyric, attitude etc. Man becomes more perfect when he revels in truth, particularly spiritual truth found in the acknowledgement of God. Before anyone can fully experience the true benefit of worship he must become a new creature. He must regenerate (aka born again ). Paul writes extensively about the putting away the spirit of self and putting on the new man that is in Christ Jesus. But the horse must go before the cart.

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Romans 10:9-10
