Don't forget about Zeus! That dude was the KING of the gods. Now how many people worship Him? A few hundred? A thousand?

Wacky!?

I sort of like the concept. It's much more palatable to me than the Old Testament God. Besides, the founder says he was personally contactacted by the aliens to act as their ambassador. Doesn't that count as a revelation?? They also roll the creation of the world's major religions into a single theory.

Quote:
Leaving our humanity to progress by itself, the Elohim nevertheless maintained contact with us via prophets including Buddha, Moses, Jesus and Mohammed, all specially chosen and educated by them. The role of the prophets was to progressively educate humanity through the messages they taught, each time adapted to the culture and level of understanding at the time. They were also to leave traces of the Elohim so that we would be able to recognise them as our creators and fellow human beings when we had advanced enough scientifically to understand them.
I'm a little uncomfortable with Mohammed having been their last messenger though. But I'm sure if I research Raelian writings hard enough I can manage to interpret things into something I'm happier with.

Seriously though, something that's always bothered me...
if the U.S. government has been concealing hard proof of extra-terrestrials, is it because they don't want to send the religious institutions into a tailspin? If they briefed President Bush about it, how was he able to maintain his faith?

When Christian ethicists are on TV claiming that they know when the spirit enters the fetus or some such hogwash, are they ever challenged by the moderator for evidence of this belief?

The Raelians are getting wiped over the coals for a belief system which is no whackier than any other.

Wacky Raelians?

I don't know. I really hope they succeed in their endeavors, because their success would really make things easier for us, atheist.

Let me explain: The Raelians seeks immortality through cloning. If they succeed, all known religion would collapse under their heavy weights--for what is religion without deaths.

Are you ready to live forever?

ah, death. christianity and islam, in particular, are based on fear of death. if death could be conquered, through cloning or genetic engineering, and we no longer needed to fear hell, then i'd imagine that those two religions, if not the vast majority of religions, would die off fairly quickly. why would a buddhist want to die when he could live forever and work on attaining nirvana? why would a christian want to die and take the chance of burning in hell? why would anyone belong to a religion at all, once death is conquered?

Lightbulb

I saw a clip last night of their church in France or somewhere. They have a big Jesus picture right in the entrance, and they believe that some spaceship landed in Israel also.

It seems Xianity has influenced this group as well..... **SIGH**

(they did have a big model of DNA strand in the church as well, I thought that was cool.,..)

Thumbs down

I had a fundie Christian co-worker go on and on today about how crazy the Raelians' belief in aliens is. Talk about a terminal case of Pot-Calling-Kettle-Black. I just sighed and reflected on the validity of The Onion's article proclaiming 98% of humanity as fucking morons.

I don't know if I would call there faith wacky, but I think a lot of them probably are. IMO I would rather believe that aliens made all life on earth than believe that a god that is invisible made all life on earth. I think it's foolish to say that the Raelians are wacky because of what they believe. I don't believe them but there is no way to prove them wrong so I don't call what they believe wacky, but maybe there actions are wacky.
