Just a little postscript here -- the "Idea" club just posted a self-serving followup article to Wells' talk (for details, hold your nose and go to <a href="http://www-acs.ucsd.edu/~idea/jwells.htm" target="_blank">http://www-acs.ucsd.edu/~idea/jwells.htm</a> ).

According to the article, 72 people filled out the "Opinion and Response" cards that were passed out during the talk. The results were broken out as follows:


I'm Convinced: 41 (57%)
Mixed Feelings: 19 (26%)
I disagree with Dr. Wells: 12 (17%)


Of course, this may not be a good representative sample of the audience (due to self-selection, etc...), but nonetheless I'm not too happy to see that only 11 people joined me in registering their disagreements with Dr. Wells.
