I have no idea why I'm an atheist. I'm willing to stop, providing a good reason..

#5 as well. A little #6 as well, but mainly #5. Can't wait until they're actually in the list of choices to vote...

This would be like me going to a Christian forum and making a similar pole. Could you pick one of these reasons for your faith?

why do you believe in god?

1. Because you can't face the idea of no life after death?

2. Because you are weak and need to believe in someone other than yourself?

3. Because you were programmed that way by your family.

4. Just in case...you don't want to go to hell if your wrong.

In lieu of a "lack of evidence" option, I'll just vote #3.

I thought number 2 was the "no evidence" reason...

Seems to require that there is absolute evidence for a god. I don't require absolute evidence, just a preponderance of the evidence. As things look now, there is every scientific experiment on the side of a natural universe and zip for a god running things. The only place I know god to exist is in the heads of believers.

Thumbs down

5) Complete lack of evidence and rational reasons to believe.

Is there a reason why you couldn't have added that to the poll?

I'm with a lot of others in that the poll doesn't represent my position well. Mostly, the religions of the world didn't seem to adequately reflect the reality of the world, and didn't seem likely to be true.

To paraphrase some smart chap from this borad who I've forgotten: I've never encountered a god to believe or disbelieve. I've encountered people with stories about god. I don't believe any of those stories, be they stories about Zues or stories about Jesus Christ.
