The janitor was about to quit anyhow. Didn't really matter much to him.

Even if you don't end up getting them played over the store's PA system, just reading these lyrics will cheer you up this holiday season! I've long wanted to assemble an atheist chorale group to harmonize these tunes. That's a tape I would treasure above all others.</strong>
Bahh.... That would just piss them off and make them fire me. <img src="graemlins/boohoo.gif" border="0" alt="[Boo Hoo]" />

Nah... That would piss them off to, but you have given me an idea though. I think I might order one of those freethinker shirts or an evolution pin / ribbon. Must promote THE TRUE WORD!

Last year, I worked for a small firm run by a part-time charismatic minister. He was a great guy, but played loud religious music in his office (on a set of Klipsch speakers I helped him buy) and the hold "music" on the firm's phone system was the local Jesus radio station. My Methodist mother once called me at work and asked why she was preached at on hold . Anyway, my heathen co-worker and I handled it with headphones: we listened to Godsmack, Bad Religion, Howard Stern, etc. while working, totally oblivious to the religious stuff being played.

In retail, I doubt you could get away with the headphone thing though. If the store is a part of a chain, you may be able to complain to the national headquarters (and get some "friends" to complain as customers). This is one advantage to the corporate stores over mom-and-pops. If the store is a mom-and-pop, forget it.

To further echo what Toto wrote above, one thing you should ask yourself IMO, is "is this a battle worth waging?" Doing this at a job that appears temporary anyway may not be justifiable.

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark</strong>
THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU
I work @ a place that is apart of a chain, so yes - they do have a headquarters. And I think I may be able to get away with wearing one tiny ear phone wired through my shirt and an MP3 player. (forgive wording - i'm very tired) But thank you again for the ideas.

Sorry bud. But it's a privately-owned store. There's nothing you can do, and nothing you SHOULD be able to do. For us to have free speech, so must everyone else.

I would fire someone that listened to music through headphones while dealing with customers.

I'm not that thrilled about militant Atheists either. Separate church and state, fine, making a hassle over what music is played in a store.. makes us all look bad.

Try asking straight out if you can play some different music, and if not; forget about it.
