Oh no, not the bird!

Hey, I'm not the one blaspheming against all that is good by bringing up all these puns.

Spurly, more atheists might take you seriously if you cut to the chaise and actually preached what you claim to believe instead of acting like a commercial for Christianity. You could have said:

"It is much harder to live a life of love than it is to follow a list of guidelines that tell you exactly what to do."

But unfortunately you are so caught up in your supernatural mumbo jumbo you can't see the forest for the trees. Incidentally, the more generic statement is still a gross over simplification. Everyone knows that life is too messy and difficult to live by following a list of guidelines that tell you "exactly" what to do. If only it were that simple. But I gotta tell you spurly, from where I sit I do not feel the love from Christians either, present company included.

If the path is hard and narrow, then Christianity should be a minority religion everywhere.

"Lobster, shrimp, roast pig....boy, these sure are tough decisions," said the pope in Rome.

I've always read that line as the original (within that particular religion) invocation of the siege mentality. The way would be hard because Christianity was a small and persecuted religion. If that's what Jesus meant, then the Christians Rhea cites are taking the verse out of context. Ah, irony.

Of course, the jackboot has been on the other foot for most of the Common Era, but I suspect ol' J.C. didn't foresee that....

When I was a fundy it was always interpreted as persecution for believing... not that Xianity alone was difficult. WTF is difficult about being a Xian in this country? It really isn't that tough to follow the Bible if you really want to and Xianity is the prevailing faith in the USA. Even the uber fundies don't have it that rough here. (I know. I was one.)

I think Christains in muslem countries have it pretty hard.
I also think it can be hard in the US to be true to your convictions.
I don't think it is hard to sing hymns or mail people Christmas and Easter cards, No.
