If God is a nice, kind, forgiving, benevolent God, then sure.

The way I see it, either there is no God, in which case, I die eventually- no big deal, or...

...there is a benevolent God, in which case he will forgive me for being skeptical of his existence and realize that I'm a decent person and deserve salvation (or whatever form of afterlife there is). Of course that's assuming that God thinks that I'm a decent person.

Or God is the evil vengeful type, in which case I hope he's happy being a jerk and alienating his creations.

I'm agnostic, in case you hadn't figured out.

So to summarize, if God were benevolent, then I think God's existence could be a good thing.

But the existence of a God, especially a benevolent one, just doesn't seem too likely.

I got in trouble once when I was discussing Von Daniken with a lady and I quizzed her on her belief that aliens had built the pyramids. She turned to me and sighed, "but it would be nice to believe they (the aliens) were real."

I responded. "Yes, it would. But does that mean you also believe in fairies and leprechans, because it would be nice if they were real too."

She would never speak to me again.

As an atheist, there are times when I become hit with the idea that I'm so very much alone. When I die, there isn't going to be a heaven waiting for me; I'm going to turn into dust and become food for the worms.
