So the guy with the hernia has received all this cash from Hovind, defending him from the 50 dollar citation. I searched high and low for "Maury Adkins" at several law sites. Can't find hide nor hair of him. If "Maury Adkins" really exists, I figure he either got the hernia from trundling away Hovind's bags of cash, or else laughing himself silly that anyone could be so irretrievably stupid. I find it ironic (read - hypocritical) that he would use one legal standard - the first amendment, to get out of another - local building law. If his connection to God puts him above local government, then wouldn't it also put him beyond other earthly laws, like the constitution? If he succeeds in this, (yeah, right) could this case be used as an argument that theists have no constitutional rights? Just wishful thinking I guess,

It would be wonderful if Hovind's self-serving fake piousness lands him in bankruptcy court. Not that he would actually pay his creditors of course... theyeti |

People like Hovind are potentially dangerous to both themselves and to others. Methinks a number of therapy sessions are in order for Kent.
BTW, here's another example of theists using the 1st amendment as an excuse to break other laws in an extent even greater than Hovind is guilty of. Does anyone remember Salman Rushdie and his book "The Satanic Verses"? I do, and I recall the president of the Pakistan League of America claiming that he had the right to kill Rushdie for blasphemy. Now that's going overboard. |
