I haven't read those O.T. crap about cannibalism.
But I hear a lot about N.T. cannibalism especially during mass. Take this all of you, and eat it. This is my body...which will be given to you so that sins will be forgiven...do this in memory of me. Yum yum... |

To be perfectly fair: child eating during a siege (or any other shortness of food) was a fairly common practice. Evolutionarily speaking, it always makes more sense to sacrifice young offspring to save adults. This is common enough in the animal kingdom.
But I guess the monotheists were the only ones depraved enough to put it in their holy books. |

It does help to show things from the Bible in context.
Are all those passages concerning sieges? If so, I guess there were a lot of sieges in the OT. Starvation can make everybody do things they never think they could do. Theist or non-theist makes no difference that way. |

LEVITICUS 26:29 is spoken by Yahweh to Moses on Mount Saini ["The LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai," LEV 25:1]. In LEV 26 he's laying out rewards for obedience, and punishments for disobedience. Here's context ... 'If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. 31 I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32 I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled. This is part of a LONG list of nasty shit Yahweh will visit upon the Israelites if they don't obey. DEUTERONOMY 28 is indeed talking about a siege ["And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body [...] in the siege"] but, get this: it is a siege sent by Yahweh, once again part of a long list of nasty shit Yahweh will inflict upon the Israelites if they don't obey. Check out this context: The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. 51 They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. 52 They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the LORD your God is giving you. 53 Because of the suffering that your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you. 2 Kings 6 is indeed relating events taking place during a siege. Jeremiah 19, verse 9 is Yahweh threatening people again: this time, through the prophet Jeremiah. ["This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle!"] Lamentations 2 & 4 are prayers, asking Yahweh for help. The context is: "We're so desperate, whadda ya want us to do, eat our kids? Send help, ya bastard!" Ezekiel 5, verse 10 is, once again, threatening the people of Israel for disobediance. This time, he's speaking like he *means* it ... Yea, what a loving god these Christians worship. --W@L |

1098 A Christian state was established in Edessa by the Crusader king, Baldwin I. In December of this year, Crusader forces led by Raymond de Saint Gilles, Count of Toulousse, and Bohemond, the Frankish governor of Antioch massacred the entire population of the Syrian town of Ma'arra al-Numan (10,000 people). The starving crusaders cannibalized some of their victims. Go to First Crusade for more. Omar |
