Thank you.

I can’t help wondering if a 2-child policy may have been a little more humane and socially healthy. Widespread female infanticide is not something I consider a good thing and nor do I think the consequential gender imbalance and abnormally skewed demographic to be a good longterm direction.
Like I said before, infanticide is a separate issue, to be tackled separately as chauvenism. Its widely prevalent in rural India as well.
Would a 2-child policy have resulted in a similar drastic (and well needed) reduction in growth rate ? I doubt it.

My father was the only son of and only son. I think sometimes there can be advantages to growing up with the companionship of siblings.
Its always costs vs benefits, isn't it ? If the costs outweigh the benefits (as they do in India and China) then, its just not worth it.

Still not entirely convinced.

Drop into the overpopulation thread. I've just posted more there which you will probably object to.

We face serious droughts and famine. Many die every year from starvation and disease. Our economic condition is poor. What do you think ?!!!!!

I think you should (1) give up your limits on hiring and firing, and foreign investment. Unleash your people! Indians are the greatest businessmen in the world! (2) suck up to the US, because the $30 billion a year surplus made Taiwan, HK, Japan, and SKorea rich, and is currently making China grow. Imagine what it could do for India. (3) Sue the Brits for reparations for dismantling your local industrial tradition (4) Cultivate Japan, on the off chance that economy will come back someday. (5) cultivate Taiwan, but you can't do that until you do (1) above. (6) quit trying to be a regional power before you have the economy of one. (7) hold a referendum on Kashmir, internationally supervised, and give it up. It's draining the economy of money and hurting your rep, and corrupting the Armed Forces. Let the Pakistanis have it, and in twenty years, when it is an impoverished fundamentalist hellhole, you can snub them when they want back in.

Hey, those are exactly my views on this. Kashmir is just not worth all the trouble. But if I mention this in public, I'll probably be shot down

As for the rest, good long term solutions, but short term, we need population control too.
