Unfortunately, the context here is such that making a fuss about it would probably do more damage to me than good. I'm in the bible belt, and if I had to guess, I'd say 85% of the people I work with are Southern Baptists. Now, as an cutthroat opportunistic businessman, I'm almost inclined to play into this. Manipulate that SOB to serve my ends and perhaps even set him up for a fall. Start having prayers with him before we meet, buy some symbols like the fish and a cross or 2. Spread around that christian email stuff. Ya know, play the part.

I kindof like this idea, but I wonder if I can pull it off.

I'd think they'd have no problem trusting an avowed atheist. At the least they'd know that you're honest. Anybody can lie about being a Christian.

I know a local atheist that joined a church in our small town just to generate more business for his garage. It worked too. Most of the church members patronize his business. Everybody wants to take their car to a good God Fear'in mechanic.

Sheesh! I don't envy either Vylo or Machiavelli. Both environments sound bad. I think PC has generally gone too far, and your assessment of it actually being more divisive than helpful is correct.

What do you think? I feel like I was sized up and that my current job rests largely on this. I feel like he was trying to illicit some sort of response that would let him know where I stood, and that since I didn't profess my faith in JC, I've put my job at risk.

I understand your frustration but I think that you handled the matter perfectly well. Bringing stupid civil servants back to their senses is not part of your job, I presume...
