It is a matter of the heart, not the mind.
Pumping blood throughout the body is a matter of the heart.

Religious belief is not.

The mind is all we've got.

Well it would sure be a lot easier to obey someone who actually appears to exist and who, by bothering interacti with people, shows a serious concern for our feelings.

I think it would be great if "god" appeared. You could spend time counting his arms or seeing if you can spot the items it's carrying in each. Or you could see if you could pat his jackal head 'Good doggy' then play 'Walk Like An Egyption' to it. Or maybe someone would try to shoot it and put it on the wall as an animal trophy.
And to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children playing in the marketplace...saying "We piped for you and you did not dance. We mourned for you and you did not lament."

Ah yes, I am sure the Muslims, Hindus and countless others have similar sentiments 'these foolish people refuse to believe our interpretation of this old book' see it says so right here in the book!

Of course you are quick to say these others are 'false gods' but they have about the same credibility as yours.

Heck no. Useless maybe. Now if they can impute righteousness to thieves on their dying day, and limit violence to the breaking of tables, hey...

Hinduwoman claims there were some Hindu gods able to forgive sins, but nobody bought into the legend. Folks who care about justice probably figured there should be some kind of sacrifice.

How are those other gods useless? It's pretty obvious that they created the universe, isn't it? And some guy once told me that Zeus imputes righteousness to theives on their dying days all the time. That dude is an imputing machine. Clearly you're worshiping the wrong god. Hopefully this proof I've laid before you is enough to show you the true nature of your sinful ways.

All of this is just more rambling. The veracity of the various religious myths isn't dependent in the slightest on the details of the mythical stories themselves. What you're arguing would be like me arguing that the events of the Wheel of Time series are more likely to be historical than Mark Twain's books simply because no one could channel in Twain's books.

The veracity of a claim depends on the evidence supporting that claim.

Evidence is something Christianity is decidedly lacking in.

Credentials indistinguishable from Yahweh. No evidence. None.

Oh quite the contrary, which is why Durant, Wells and Klausner believe them. The negative details prove their veracity. And those historians don't assume readers are stupid enough to believe such a sweeping assertion as yours.

They know they can find those anywhere.
