Interesting stuff.

Job does not identify "who" or "where" with regards to the Adversary--sometimes translated as "the Prosecutor." Is he a bene elohim a son of a god/gods? YHWH has to ask him where he had been. Who knows?

The OT has other "personages" such as "the Destroyer" who squishes the kiddies in Egypt and then the Israelites in the Chronicles story:

Quote:
Exod 12:23b and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts YHWH will pass over the door, and will not allow the Destroyer [mashhit--Ed.] to enter your houses to slay you.

1 Chron 21:15 And God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy [hammashhit--Ed.] it; but when he was about to destroy it, YHWH saw and he repented of the evil; and he said to the destroying angel, "It is enough; now stay your hand."
Assuming I have the Hebrew transliterations correct--from a reference. Looking at the Hebrew it looks like it may be a bit different, and I am too frelled to try to render it on a browser that does not even show it.
