I almost use my real name; 'Dick Springer' is how I am generally known, but my real first name is 'Meredith.' I adopted the nickname to avoid the problems that I, as a boy, had with a girls' name.

Some people choose screennames because they are cute or a nickname they like to use for themselves. Mine has a history to it, and is easy for me to remember. I do not see using our real names as a significant form of activism.

Besides, most of us at this board are nontheists anyway. Are we trying to be open atheists to each other? That does not really do much. We are open about it here anyway.

If you mean that we should use our regular names on other message boards (but it does not really matter much on this one), I would still disagree. Some use handles for privacy concerns, or like me---just to be consistent across multiple boards, and so I can be easily identified if someone at another board visits this one and sees "Brian63."

Maybe I missed my calling, but at age 75 I would find it more challenging than when I was younger.

Aside from the space between joseph and palazzo, my moniker speaks for itself, even got my homepage where you can find just about anything on me.

Believe it or not, this was my first forum, and I thought I had to have a user name. Heck, I even thought I had to register to read the posts, I was that new. By the way, my real name is Otto Didact.

I openly debate anyone willing about my beliefs, and am extremely open with my atheism. I personally think I bring it up when it's not necessary, so doesn't apply to me.
