If Jesus loses do they have to take back the religion?

Who exactly is being sued here? Jesus, or the Priest? If the guy is claiming that Jesus never existed, it won't do much good to sue him. And the priest has a point. He shouldn't be singled out just because some shlump has a god gripe. Besides, the priest probably doesn't have any money anyway. If you're going to sue anybody over the question of Jesus' existance, go after the guy in the funny hat.

What a bunch of silliness.

it's simple: since the priest, like so many others, tell people of their congregation that jesus lived or better yet, is alive and well...prove it. any priest can be sued for proof...it just so happens this priest was the lucky one.

how hard was that to understand thru your clouded christian mind?

i'm willing to bet the chrisitians are shitting their drawers about this. finally show some legal proof that what you preach is true.

in other words: put up or shut up.

This is perhaps one of the most quintessentially American things I have ever heard of.

Unbelievable.

Maybe someone should let the Italians know this, as I'm sure they would be mortified to discover they are behaving like quintessential Americans

For purposes of the First Amendment and separation of church and state it is a religious belief. The government can no more endorse that there is no god than it can that there is a god.

Concerning the implications of religious impact and freedom of religion - specifically, I think, the lawsuit is also challenging that the church is preaching a dangerous message to the Italian people, that either they believe this nonesense or you will go to hell. If the Church can't back that up, sounds like a false claim to me.

On the Jesus issue, he's responding to the remarks that the bishop made to him about his book on Jesus. It's unfortunate that his theory seems so ludicrous that I don't think he'll have a case on this part of the lawsuit. However, if he wins the first...imagine the implication for all religions - no more hell-preaching.
