Default Is God really omnibenevelent in the OT?

Hi everybody.
I was having a converstion with a christian friend the other day, and she commented that the problem of evil isn't really a problem because the Bible never says God is all-good. As far as I can see, she's right. Have I missed something?

I do not think her solution works--if she wishes to worship an evil deity, that is her business. However, she is correct that "omnibenevolent" is foreign to the OT texts and to the cultures. Considering a deity "omnibenevolent" is a rather modern convention. Indeed, some can preach an "omnibenevolence" whilst applauding the massacre of "them."

Yep, I'm sure the Gideonites didn't think Joshua's God was Omnibenevolent. Great for the Israelites, sucks to be one of the tribes in Caanan at the time (so the myth goes).

Well, if I believed is an evil, all-powerful diety up there who would torture me for all eternity unless I worshipped him, I just might start attending church!

I guess that Satan wasn't all that bad in the old testament either. I mean, if Adam & Eve had listened to the serpent and eaten from both trees, we would have been better off.
