So, Acts indicates parallels between the 'Paul' story and the JC story - therefore - that indicates a different writer from other parts of Acts? Why should it? Storytelling can take many forms from the hand of one writer. You need a more compelling reason to uphold many authors of Acts than the use of various storytelling mediums within that work.
Who knows? It's a story - and the author - or the editor - can do as he pleases......

So it's just as sensible to suggest thst another author took over after chapter 19. Because otherwise one would expect to see him use his literary technique much earlier.
And of course the "Saul" element is quickly changed to "Paul" with the flick of a switch.

I will say pulling up his criminal record was a low blow, but a persons credibility does count in this field. I would also argue he is not the best there is in the field of "act's"

With that said, there "WAS" no original intention to, by the author of acts to reboot jesus. Its very possible that he could have glorified him to some extent, possibly to give him or herself more credibility as a follower of paul.

showing admiration towards paul is one thing, but in the text there is no mention of really deifieing paul at all, this bust any possible connection for the author to put paul in jesus shoes.

this whole jesus reboot was done by our friend who lost all his credibility and would not be welcome in my town

Not Helm's lol

the garden variety of critical scholars found in wiki on the subject

such as

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histori...f_the_Apostles

Gerd Lüdemann, Alexander Wedderburn, Hans Conzelmann, and Martin Hengel

my issue us I dont follow 1 of anything in any scholarship, to much room for mistakes based on opinion.

My main issue is none are agreed in all aspects, in those area's that are not in agreement, I like to base my own opinion.

I don’t have Richard Pervo’s latest book - but found this scholarly review online. The interesting point, re the OP, is that it looks as though, in this new book, that Pervo is running with the idea that ‘Paul’ and the gospel JC are a lot alike.....

Another feature of Paul in this material is that he can be represented as a savior figure in his own right (Acts of Paul, the Coptic Apocalypse, Acts, and Xanthippe and Polyxena). Many in this tradition sought to make Paul the subject of a biographical story and hence, according to Pervo, make him look a lot like Jesus (184–85).

As to the scholarship of Richard Pervo - here is an extract from a review of his latest book.

THIS is a remarkable book and every serious student and scholar of Paul should take note of it. It is impossible in a short review to do justice to the breadth of scholarship, richness of insight, and superb analysis displayed. The text is 239 pages; the endnotes are about a third of that number of pages but in a smaller font and packed with fascinating detail. There are also 11 tables, and excellent indexes. Pervo says that the book began with a series of lectures in the mid-1980s and has been in the making in the quarter century since then. Certainly, the book has the feel of long and mature reflection.
From reading The Mystery of Acts - I like the man's approach to the material in Acts. So - I've just placed an order for The Making of Paul - which will take at least 3 weeks to arrive - so in the meantime - back to The Mystery of Acts....

There is a Google preview and e-book of The Making of Paul.
