I would argue that the entire Gospels took place in the mind of one man who did not exist until he ascended to heaven, or heaven would be redundant to start with.

You can't do a direct comparison, and you cannot draw conclusions in the same manner. We're comparing apples and oranges here. If we are going to compare, we'd better do so with that assumption in mind. And who is claiming that Jesus was a military leader?

Here's a big difference - the followers of Jesus claimed he actually died and later arose. However, Al-Qaida in Iraq has a different story. From one article, the captive said that they won't catch him - so did the US government lie when they said that caught him?

And what of this?

in including david are you also including all those that are claimed to be descended from him, in other words the entire jewish royal line.
Many royal lines have claimed a supernatural ancestor, a god or a hero.

No. For instance, I am not denying the existence of those who, during the 2nd century B.C.E. Maccabean period, claimed to be descendants of David. They existed but their supposed ancestor may not have.

May not have? Wow, that's being very liberal there. I haven't seen such latitude in spite of lack of evidence

Care to go in depth? What evidence is there that David is to be considered a mythical founder, especially in lieu of the Tel Dan inscription?
