I don't mean to rain on the parade but R. Price has referred to holding as erudite. I think this counts for something.

Price

Quote:
Internet apologist James Patrick Holding (as he chooses to be known) has thus far seen fit to by-pass the pages of published books, though one can only imagine numerous evangelical publishers would love to have him. He maintains a website containing a whole raft of apologetical essays, most of them aiming to refute unbelievers and biblical critics, all of whom he considers to be enemies of the faith. He is amazingly prolific and erudite as well, though he seems to me sometimes perversely to misread his opponents' arguments and to reduce them to strawman status.
Price then goes on to demolish his arguments as fallacious and superfluous.

Indeed, Mr. Price even goes as far as beginning by delivering what seems to be a compliment, though one that is, we may suspect, inscribed on the back of his hand as it were:

{see above}.

Not bad coming from someone who once suggested that Josh McDowell was "either just plain stupid or a damn liar."

Thanks.
Looks like I misunderstood what Holding said in that radio interview. He probably spoke about that he may change his name back to Holding. I must have missed that part.
Sorry, my mistake.

I was not aware that he is currently claiming Holding to be his original name. I suppose this apparently new story could be true but I'm not putting any money on it. All I know is he threw a huge fit when someone revealed that his real name was Robert Turkel but he never mentioned that Holding was his original name at that time. The whole former prison librarian excuse was pathetic enough.

That seems rather odd if this story is true.

Well, pathetic or not, if my life had been threatened I might also think through how I would like to use my my real name. According to this link
http://www.geocities.com/atheismsuck...hasnoshame.htm
his life was threatened twice at work, and at one time was told to his face : "If I see you on the street when I get out, I will kill you."

Maybe there is no threat against Holding as we speak now, but he might have needed some anonymity years ago. And as mentioned above, his claim that Holding is his real name might be interpreted as meaning his original name at birth. I may have misunderstood what he said in that interview.

All the best,
Graceman.

The claim doesn't stand up.

While he was working as a prison librarian, he used his real name. Any of the inmates behind bars who wanted to "get him" would therefore already know that his actual name is Robert Turkel, not "JP Holding". Changing your name doesn't offer any hiding place, if the alleged bad guys already know what your real name is.

My father was a prison guard, and he never felt the need to change his name. And I can assure you, a prison guard made far more enemies among the inmates than a prison librarian does.

Which is why Turkel's entire claim is nonsense. He's either trying to rationalize his affectation of using a nom de plume, or create a sense of awe (and marketing buzz) for himself. No longer satisfied to be a lowly prison librarian, he's now re-invented himself as an International Man of (Dewey Decimal) Danger.

His band of fawning idiots really, *really* need to do some critical thinking about the claims of their wannabe pied piper.

How was he born with such an entirely different name? Was he adopted?

If he was old enough to already have a full name when he was adopted, it would be unusual for his adoptive parents to change his entire name.

I think Sauron is correct. This is just more BS.
