Default Capernaum

http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/MFAArchive.../Capernaum.htm

Above is very similar to wiki so I don't know who wrote what first or if Vatican wrote both - it was done at time of Pope's visit!

I thought I had read somewhere that Capernaum was a Roman town - it seems to at least had a centurion and garrison based there.

In attempting to find a historical Jesus, would not Capernaum be a better place to look, possibly as a member of a senior priestly group and that Jesus is from capernaum? Might there be strong unacknowledged Roman connections in Jesus's alleged family?

What possible reasons might there be for placing Jesus in Capernaum?
