Default Is raising the dead part of Wicca?

Grave Robbers wanted to raise the dead

Quote:
When questioned by police, the four said were trying to cast Wicca spells -- a type of witchcraft. McLellan told police the ashes would be used to raise the dead
Is this kind of practice really part of wiccan rituals?

People can say anything is a Wiccan ritual because most of it is made up on the spot and it sounds spooky. They're just dumb kids out for thrills.

No. That's a ridiculous attempt to get out of just punishment, not a Wiccan belief.

Default the real meaning....

of 'raising the dead' as its deeper meaning means in mythology is 'being born again'. I.e., hallucinogenic inspiration. The idea being that our 'ignorant' state is 'dead', and ecstatic inspiration brings one back to life
Remember the statement attributed to Jesus "Let the dead bury the dead"...? Ie., that that looking to the past-historical-is 'dead'

amongst these there are other associations. for example, the taking of the 'sacred mushroom' Fly Agaric could seem to render the taker unconsiousness, which seemed like death to the observer. Yet after so many hours the taker suddenly 'returns to life'
This has also been seen with flies--hence the term 'fly agaric'. it was believed that it killed flies, but studies have shown that they too go unconscious but then regain consciousness and fly away

wonder what a fly trip's like...?

I think this is what www.religioustolerance.org would label Satanic Dabbling

This is a syncretistic religion which largely lacks a consistent theology. Its followers blend elements copied from religious Satanism, ceremonial Magic, Wicca, other Neopagan traditions, Goddess worship, various Occult traditions, and any other useful source of rituals that the followers can find. Frequently, writings about Gothic Satanism by fictional, Roman Catholic, or Evangelical authors are added to the mix. It is typically practiced by rebellious teenagers or young adults -- generally for a short time. They probably number in the tens or hundreds of thousands at any one instant in North America. An exact estimate is impossible to obtain, since they are totally devoid of any central organization.

In America the word 'wicca' and the word 'witchcraft' seem to be used interchangably so what they probably meant is that they were trying to practise witchcraft - ie they were trying to do magic. I have yet to see any reference to the raising of the dead in any Wiccas-based tradition.

A Wiccan may try to communicate with the dead, a time-honoured practice among pagans (as condemned in the Bible), but raising the dead bodily is unknown. My belief is that only a God can raise someone from the dead.

That wasn't a very nice thing to say about wiccans. Many of these people truly believe in this stuff.

Any God or Goddess. Zeus, Athene, Freyja, Yahweh, and so on.

the most damning and succinctly put statement of the idiocy of "wicca"
