That youtube video is just the text of the announcement, with a little music one picture of Jesus.

Exactly. All this puffery and bluffery about it being "common sense" and a done deal that Jesus existed, all those pompous (yet at the same time curiously bathetic) claims of consensus - all it amounts to is a silly attempt at a sort of apologist's Jedi mind-trick, i.e. the apologist's equivalent of "these are not the droids you are looking for" (along with arch handwave ).

All that squid ink would be totally unnecessary if the HJ hypothesis were such a clear winner, the last man standing in a straightforward battle of the hypotheses.

Yuk.

We've already had two millenia of Jesus history Roger. If the gospel story is true why shouldn't it be able to withstand a full skeptic onslaught?
You're preaching to the converted, bacht.

I believe Roger honestly believes his packaging of reality. However, what he shows he believes isn't derived from any rational cogitation. He is unwilling to conceive that what he has himself believe to be a lie is obviously not so to others. It's just like the atheist who thinks Roger will say anything to defend the lie they see him toady to. There's little difference between the mythicist atheist and Roger. Merely a sign change, "+" or "-".

You thought wrong. Some skeptics do think that, but they're a minority.

You might try paying some attention when you converse with people who disagree with you. You could be amazed by the stuff you'd learn.

Perhaps, since both mythicists and theists can accept everything written in those stories at face value. Mythicists simply need a few less excuses.

Y'know, I'm not even sure the authors of the Gospels got together. I think they just developed it in series.

Various threads here have prompted me to attempt a classification of origin of christianity options.

Mainstream - Nicene - with variants - Jesus is the Son of God, New Testament accurate etc, church records accurate etc. (yer doomed scenario!)

Variants of this, that accept various bits as accurate - all search for historical Jesus stuff, Jesus is a Jew, cynic, etc

Astrotheology, Jesus and Isis etc

Roman propaganda - Ceasar's Messiah

Mark as a play - Nazarenus, and similar.

"Oriental cult" - gnostics, neo pythagoreans, fish, Paul's visions

Jesus as a Jewish Hercules

Later invention written back in time

Reaction of Judaism to Roman Imperial Theology

What else?

Ellegard

Part of history of Judaism and its interactions with Rome, Greece, Carthage, Egypt, Persia, India and China because of its geographical and political position on the silk road.

Jerusalem as the centre of the earth beliefs.

This probably ought to be taken down. The deadline passed a long time ago.

I was waiting for notice of a winner, but that might take some time.
