The very first verse in the very first chapter of the Bible is WRONG! This verse is wrong in its assertion that there is a God, and that the heavens and the earth were created at the same time. Aside from the fact that there isn't a God, we now know that the heavens came into being via the Big Bang approximately 14 billion years ago, and that the Earth came into being via entirely natural processes approximately 4.5 billion years ago. Why does the Bible not mention this 10-billion year or so gap? Because it is WRONG, that's why! The first verse of the supposed "word of God" is WRONG, so why should we believe the rest of it? Glory!

Yes but Jef, it says that "when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland and darkness covered the abyss, while the mighty wind swept over the waters."

This kind of means that the earth already was and all God did was create the heavens in the plural and placed them opposite to earth so that light might be conceived in the darkness that prevailed on this earth (we are now in Gen.1:2).

If you did read on to Gen.2 you might have noticed that nothing had been formed as of yet to received this light and so it must be obvious to you that God deals with the essence of existence in Gen.1 that takes form in Gen. 2 under the name of Lord God here on this planet that we call earth, which may have been 15 billion years old for all they cared.

I would interpret Gen. 1:1 as implying that, "Within a thing called 'The Beginning', God created a thing called 'The Heavens' and a thing called 'The Earth'. I think 'The Beginning' would refer to the creation of what we call 'time', 'The Heavens' as what we call 'space', and 'The Earth' as what we call 'matter'. The creative sequence of time/space/matter would seem to be in general agreement with the reversed extrapolations physics is making concerning possible BB and Inflationary Era events.

I pointed some out to you already. You even recanted.

Though it is a pretty large error right off the bat, I suppose it doesn't. If it is truly the "word of God" though, then it should contain NO errors. One error is one too many.
Errors? You've got to be kidding, right? Errors? ERRORS????!!!!?!?!? There's "errors" in Tacitus. So what? Who cares. You're bringing up a dead point.

No kidding? Like I haven't known that for, oh, at least 20 years now!
For knowing that for some 20 years, you sure didn't act like you did. All the talk about "it" being negated when, in fact, you only mentioned one measely book from the canon. Can you say non sequitur?

Yes, I'm sure you could have, but thank the Magical Being that you didn't.
Why? Don't like being shown where you make your mistakes?

:notworthy: As always I am fascinated by your writting .. this is however one of those exceptional times when I more than vaguely understand your point of refrence and surprise ... surprise I actually agree in part ... IMO modern (mainstream ... literalist) Christians misuse the intent of the early writters and miss the point of much of those writtings ...

It seems that way.

Let me add that the plural of the heavens is where they are multi-generational to contain the richess of heaven that have been retained by the woman who saw that the tree of knowledge was good for gaining food, wisdom and beauty. This would be why Mary came from Nazareth which is that small but great city of God in Judaism (she moved to Rome from there to display her abundance).
