Default Who are more likely to commit suicide?

When the going gets real tough who do you think is more likely to flush it all and hit the permanent delete button?

I find that folk normally choose the easier path or the path of less resistance and this is normally based on the knowledge they have at the time.

Atheists believe there is no after life, hence when you flush its over, gone etc.

Some theists believe there is a life after which could be good or bad.

What do you guys think?

Who is more likely to toss the bucket when things on this lovely planet makes stress and unhappiness level reach unbearable levels.

I did not vote..

It is a childish question, IMO..

Those with weaker psychological constitution are more prone to commit suicide..

And there people who are of weak, are found on both sides of the camp...

Statistically speaking, theists are more in number than atheists.. Hence, Theists are more likely to commit suicide on sociological scale..

But on comparative view, I think it is roughly similar...

I have no idea, we would need study to find out.

To me I would think that if you believe you will live forever and go to heaven, then why not commit suicide?

If you believe that there is no afterlife, then why end the only life you have prematurely?

I doubt that any of this has much impact on people when they are emotionally disturbed however....

My reasoning was essentially the same as Malachi151's.

Perhaps, after I've tried every treatment option, and still see no other way to ease my pain, I'd consider it, but, as was said, hard to apply rational thought to the issues of a disturbed mind.

Default Another NON-Vote

I did not vote as I see the question (not as childish) as biased and manipulative .... bottom line sucide is only an option under great physical/ emotional / physcological stress (in general) as worded in the question ... so the action could be just as eaisly justified under either world-view Atheist ( There is no afterlife / god ) or Theist ( my actions will be forgiven or are ok because .... whatever)

I would like to know what basis those who did vote use to make a choce

This is a testable question. There are probably studies out there which include this data. There's no reason to toss around meaningless conjectures.

Now if you're asking about suicide bombers, I think we have enough data on that one to say something meaningful.
