Do you think the fictional Jesus might have been derived from an historical figure (on your chart)?

She stated here

The composite gospel Jesus figure based upon the historical figures of the last King and High Priest of the Jews, Antigonus; and Philip the Tetrarch.
Thanks, outhouse.......

Onias, this is what you asked in post #31

[T2]Why do you think Jesus was portrayed as a pacifist as well as a rebel?[/T2]

I replied, in post #32

[T2]That question is answered in the chart. Antigonus was a 'man of war'. Followed, later, by Philip the Tetrarch, a 'man of peace'. These two historical figures are the backbone, so to speak, of the literary, composite, figure of the gospel JC.[/T2]

Have another look at the chart - and my comment, and your question, from earlier posts.

Additionally, on the 'man of war' element in the composite gospel JC - have a look at this article:

Why is the Hypothesis that Jesus Was an Anti-Roman Rebel Alive and Well?

As to Philip the Tetrarch being a 'man of peace': A quote from an old History Book (referencing Josephus)

Quote:
Philip.......was remarkable among Herodians for his popularity and benevolence as a ruler. His reign being peaceful, there is less to report of him; but he too was a builder, and a straightforward supporter of the Roman empire.

Antigonus, Hasmonean, lost his life in a destructive war when he sided with the invading armies of Parthia. His killer and political enemy was King Herod, an allied of Rome.

Phillip, Herodian, is a minor politician in the immediate post war period and believes that peace with the all-powerful winner of the war is the right policy,
Phillip is like Chancellor Conrad Adenauer in post war Germany, but of an infinitively less political significance.

So, the argument consist of the following: A defeated leader is followed by a compromising minor politician .This is said to make Jesus a composite invention and to explain the birth of Christianity and 2000 years of history and the conversion of the inhabitants of the Empire?

Indeed, politics is often a very dirty business. No wonder the gospel writers went to great pains to create a more 'beautiful' figure of that gospel JC!

However, if it's early christian history that we are seeking - then it's down to the political 'dirt' we must go......

A little ditty sung to the Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla:
With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He attacks the Romans and throws them down

Helpless peasants work their olive press, and
Scream, bug-eyed, as they look at the mess

He picks up a sword and he throws it back down
As he wades through the blood in the center of town

Oh, no, they say they got to go
Go go you Romans
Oh, no, the Romans receive great blows
Go go you Romans

History rejects again and again that Jesus is just a Mythical man!
