Default If God does not exist then why is it so burning topic?

Hello dear friends,
I am just curious (or confused) to realize that:

If God does not exist then why it is so burning and more often discussed topic? Even among those who do not believe in Hm?
Let us try to find the truth together!
Thank you for your investment.

Possibly because those who believe that gods do exist often try to proscribe other's behaviour to them, regarding what they can eat, drink, who they can marry, who they can have sex with, how to bring up their children, what they wear etc.

If god belivers were happy to live their lives believing in gods and not interfering with others I doubt the topic would ever be raised.

God is such a burning topic because of the dominant role of religion in our country. Powerful religious individuals and groups in government and other institutions perpetuate the god-concept. Until nonreligous individuals and groups have more power or become larger relative to religionists, the idea of god is going to continue to be propogated. This is why is it so important that competing nonreligous ideas, philosophies, worldwiews, and fields of science be taught in schools and that nonreligous individuals hold elective office and have self-perpetuating groups and organizations. Otherwise, the religious majority will continue to dominate and try to force their views and practices on others.

It's such a burning topic because religion is a very infectious meme and one which causes harm.

Simply because it has had such an impact on people. If you look at history, many atrocities have been made against other human beings in the name of "God" and religion. The Salem Witch Hunts, the Crusades. But I agree that "discussing" the existence of "god" is about as silly as debating whether Santa Clause exists. But Im sure if believe in Santa had the kind of effect belief in god has had, there would be an internet site dedicated to this debate and hundreds of books written as well

This topic is better suited for General Religious Discussions.

Will theists ever learn how to use the search engine? There's dozens of threads about this topic.

Well, Hello charis

God doesn't exist, but I was taught at an early age that he did. Lot's of people have been taught that. I think god is a personality created by us to explain nature in a personal way.

We should feel right at home here on earth, but due to supernatural and mystical fantasies people just naturally believe that acts of nature, are acts of some sort of god, that somehow we are going to lift off of earth and go somewhere else? As strange as that sounds people still believe it?

confused Yeah, me too.

Nature doesn't hate us or love us, its just the universe acting as it does. When you learn more about how the world works, and focus less on the why does it work that way (ie; its afraid, mad, sad, happy, jealous, and in some way giving nature some sort of personality) , its simple. We might act out of emotion, purpose, or meaning but the universe does not.

Whether god(s) are real or not, the influence religion continues to have on the world, both good and bad, is mind-boggling astounding.

Primarily because in the context of many atheist vs. theist debates, the background for both is some sort of Judeo-Christian based "all or nothing" worldview regarding religion. Christianity makes a number of outrageous philosophical claims, moral claims and theological claims that stretch the limits of credibility far beyond the breaking point. This wouldn't be such a problem in and of itself, since MANY religions and even political ideals have that same quality; but one of the claims made by Abrahamic religions is that no matter how deranged or nonsensical their claims, it absolutely imperative that you believe those claims or suffer an as yet unknown consequence.

You see, it's easy to dismiss a raving lunatic whose talking to himself on the subway. It's not so easy to dismiss a raving lunatic who insists on talking to you and trying to convince you to share his delusions.
