I can understand the desire to take advantage of the fools born every minute, but I mean, come on already.

Exchange of insults
Quote:
The fight broke out over Dimitrov’s statement from Tuesday published in a Sofia daily newspaper in which he slammed certain archaeologists for being envious of Prof. Kazimir Popkonstantinov, the man who found the relics of St. John the Baptist, and for criticizing Popkonstantinov and Dimitrov himself for celebrating the discovery before carrying out the proper tests.

“Why, damn it, why, where is all this envy coming from?! This is what I cannot find an explanation with this fucking people, with these fucking colleagues,” the Diaspora Minister and a former Director of the Bulgarian National History Museum, said when expressing his indignation that some of the Bulgarian archaeologists had declared the triumph over the relics of St. John the Baptist premature.

“Please don’t interpret literally the words of a 65-year-old nationalist who has proven himself to the Bulgarian people. I did not say “fucking people, fucking colleagues”. The second part of this sentence makes it clear that I had in mind a group of people calling themselves archaeologists. You can see from the context of the conversation that this does not refer to the entire Bulgarian people and its qualities. I am condemning several archaeologists, who had made anonymous statements in the press, and who did not express doubt but, rather, envy and hate for their colleague. I was just defending out colleague Popkonstantinov,” Minister Dimitrov told Darik Radio Friday.

...
I think this may have lost (or gained) something in translation.

Norway is financing this enterprise

Quote:
“We are happy that important archaeological projects are financed with Norwegian money, and in this way we are helping Bulgaria preserve its rich cultural-historical heritage. Of course, first we’ll have to wait for the results from the ongoing analyses of the finds. It would be a great joy if it turns out they have a high historical value,” Mrs Skarstein said, in regards to the remains, found during the excavations, which some archaeologists claim belonged to Saint John the Baptist.

Once the DNA tests from the silver platter are complete, the comparisons can be made and the doubters can be silenced.

Diets high in honey and locusts are bound to leave several genetic markers that will make this a slam dunk case.

Suck it skeptics!

Have the remains been carbon dated? If not, why not?

Well, duh!
Obviously he was called John "the baptist" because he liked dunking locusts in honey. It was like his signature move or something. And nobody else did that. Don't you know anything?

Really? I thought they were metaphors since there are no grasshoppers or honeybees in the desert but that in fact they were the 'scraps' that were discarded by the 'rich man' that in the 'eye of the soul' are sweeter than honey. John is born from the netherworld in Judea where he was restrained or belted by the faculty of reason that made his existence barely known until he was set free to make himself known in the mind of the Jew.

It's the only way to get religious dolts to read anything. There was a similar bit of nonsense pulled recently in Israel where a bit of cuneiform writing was transformed into "proving" the Patriarchal age.

Sad but headline writers have to eat, too.
