Cali, this is one thing I have against you ... you wax very eloquent in criticizing me, however, it seems you don't pay much attention to what I say. I have said on numerous occasions that I am not the least interested in religion. I am interested in TRUTH. What is the truth about reality? That is the fascinating question to me. Can the Koran help me understand the truth about reality? If someone can convince me that it can, then I will read it. Can Darwin's Origin help me understand the truth about reality? Well ... maybe it can help me understand the truth about the reality of adherence to dogma in the face of contrary evidence, but I don't think I need to be convinced about that reality any further. And I'm becoming quite convinced that it CANNOT help me understand the truth about reality WRT the Origin of Species.
Dave, what does the Bible have to do with TRUTH? Isn't it a collection of religious writings? If you are really interested in TRUTH you must try to be as unbiased as possible and start of from a neutral point of view. Is that what you are doing?

Exactly.

I think this is one of saddest statements I've read in some time. It's honest, but it's truly sad. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge is a wonderful thing. I've read the thoughtful responses listing many good reasons as to why one would want to increase their knowledge of the world around them. In my view knowledge is a worthy end in itself. Period. The above statement is what I often hear referred to as arrogant ignorance. The hubris kicks in when you reject that which you haven't even bothered to examine.

1. You ask a bunch of questions.
2. We point you books to read, which answer your questions.
3. Assuming you actually want answers to the questions you ask, then you already have a "reason to read".

It's not a reason you lack, Davey; what you lack is initiative (among other things).

I don't care if you read the Qur'an. Why don't you read "Origin of the Species" by Darwin?

All of it. And the Book of Mormon. And the Doctrine and Covenants. And the Pearl of Great Price. And the Bagh-i-Muattar. And the Necronomicon.

Semantic dodge.

Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc. are all religions.
They also make the claim to "not being a religion, but being TRUTH."

You seem to think that only christianity was clever enough to come up with that little bit of marketing spin. You're wrong.

I would not be so quick to arrive at that conclusion, DWCC. People like afdave, lee_merrill, etc. are not what most people would call 'honest.' There's another word for them.

I think it is honest, its just that what he considers a good reason is different that most peoples'. I would venture to guess that the only "good" reason is that it agrees with what he already believes.
