Default Five Books of Moses - origins?

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on the current scholarly position regarding the believed origins of the Five Books of Moses, both chronologically and in terms of source/s. I'm aware that there is believed to have been a period of oral transmission before these were committed to writing, and that textual analysis suggests at least four different sources (in terms of the texts), but that's about it.

The ones who do know stuff here rarely bother to answer the questions of us mere mortals so unless this is one such occasion you'll have to settle for incompetents like myself. What you're referring to is known as the Documentary_hypothesis. Remember that at Wiki zealots smuggle in their view wherever and whenever they can. I'm sure you know this, but I did see one paragraph that looked dubious. So if you really want to be sure what scholars think you have to read the sources.
