I think Jesus is identified with the Sun because Sun is a homonym of Sun.

So long as Christianity has part Platonism in it, it makes sense that an aspect of Jesus is that he's a representation of the sun, even before the Gospels were written. The material manifestation/incarnation of God in this world, like the Platonic sun is the material manifestation of the Good in the natural world. St. Augustine spells this out blatantly, it's almost handed to him on a silver platter from the Gospels, imo.

I may be missing something but what does sun-worship by "pre-hebrews" or any other ancient religion have to do with Jesus? Muhammed? Joseph Smith?

When study #1 cites other studies #2, #3, etc., that is not a replication of study #1. A replication would be an independent examination of studies #2, #3, etc., that reached the same conclusion as study #1.
