Wink There's lots of evidence for Jesus! - VIDEO

I also hear people claiming that there is more evidence for Jesus than there is for Julius Caesar, Socrates, George Washington, Micky Mouse, etc...! This short 3 minute video excerpt of a longer video sums it up nicely:

Without watching either, let me take a guess:

Something to do with Acharya S, right?

You are correct, sir.

And I viewed the video for one second at my expense. You are in debt to me. Now you must view a video of either VenomFangX or Kent Hovind- it's your choice.

Yes, the one-sided, anti-Acharya biases is rampant around here. However, the video isn't about Acharya, it's a short video of CHRISTIAN biblical scholars admitting that there's no evidence for Jesus that can stand up to peer review and scientific scrutiny.

The fact remains that I hear theists and atheists claim that there is more evidence for Jesus than there is for Julius Caesar, Socrates etc and it just isn't accurate.

If you'd prefer to get hung-up on your prejudice against Acharya S then that your issue.

Two questions: in your view, has AS ever been wrong about anything she's asserted about Jesus, about ancient Egypt, and/or about the translation of an ancient text?

If she has, what led you to see this?

I know this is BC&H, so possibly the attainable level of scholarship prescribes an early resort to the ad hominem attack. But perhaps we can do better. In the first video snippet Murdock presents a number of quotes from biblical scholars, and concludes from these that the consensus is that there is not much evidence for a Historical Jesus. Some valid criticisms would be:
  • These are not scholars but barely educated hobbyists
  • These scholars have been misrepresented
  • This is not a representative sample of NT scholars re this issue
I have no idea whether any of the above are true, but they would at least make valid debating points.

I can't imagine it's many atheists. I don't recall hearing any atheists claim any such thing, but in all fairness I don't hang out much in BC & H

Did any of the complainers even watch the video before running for their guns?

It's absurd to pretend that Acharya S is infallable. She would NEVER make such an idiotic claim.

Acharya S is not the topic here Jeffrey. Popular Christian biblical scholars admitting that the evidence for Jesus is "scanty and problematic" vs. the argument of evidence for Socrates etc is the issue made clear in the o.p.

The irrational and blind prejudice against Acharya's work has been clear in every thread about her work here. Having read comments about her work in other threads, Gibson, I notice you and others here can never find it within yourselves to give Acharya S any credit or respect whatsoever. Some here are incapable of acknowledging she is or may be correct or that she has done great work in a specific area or subject.

For example, the Luxor thread:
http://iidb.infidels.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=100965

The Luxor article by Carrier has been thrown at Acharya as if it "debunked" her work for the last 4 years when Carrier's article has been in error all along. He actually read more of Brunner's book (he just "skimmed" it) than Acharya's work. In fact, all he read of Acharya's work is what was apparently e-mailed to him which was a short paragraph he included in his article.

Why didn't you or others here discover the error by Carrier? Did everybody here just accept him at his word? Only Acharya S discovered his egregious error and, you and some others refuse to give her any credit for that.

Jeffrey, you fully accepted Carrier's word without question but go after Acharya's work with your anal retentive magnifying glass even *AFTER* she discovered his error. Meanwhile, you fail utterly to recognize your own double-standard and hypocrisy on the issue concerning Acharya's work. Your biases, prejudice and utter hatred of her work make your opinions of it immediately suspect. I simply cannot trust your opinions of her work.

I think it's time she get the credit and respect she deserves.

I didn't ask you what AS claims about her assertions. I asked you whether you believed her ever to wrong at certain points, and if so, why.

Are you going to answer or are you going to dodge these questions as you did in all that's below?

So far as I can see, I never said anything one way or the other about how I felt vis a vis "Carrier's word" on the mater in question.

Can you point me to where I did so?

The only one working from a double standard here is you. You said that no one who hadn't written a book and published articles (and presumably not just in vanity presses) should be listened to, and that those like Carrier who are not Egyptologists should be listened to on matters Ancient Egyptian. But now you are insisting that we listen to unpublished you as well as to AS who is not an Egyptologist.

She has.
